Nectar Sierra Leone Bulk Terminal (NSBT) proudly supported ten young women from the Kanikay Community through a women’s empowerment programme designed to build practical, income-generating skills, education and promote inclusive economic growth.
The initiative was proposed by the CDAP Committee of the Kanikay Community as part of NSBT’s 2025 CDAP commitment to the community. It reflects NSBT’s ongoing dedication to investing in women and creating opportunities that can strengthen livelihoods at the community level. The programme gave participants hands-on training in baking, pastry making, beauty, and hair styling, helping them develop market-ready and technical skills.
Beyond the training itself, the programme is designed to encourage entrepreneurship, enabling women to start small businesses, create jobs, and contribute to wider economic development within Kanikay and surrounding areas.
Training And Engagement
NSBT was honoured to visit a training session at F Mans Multi-Skills Centre (a vocational training institution in Freetown, focused on youth and community empowerment), where the team observed the programme in progress and engaged directly with the participants. The visit provided a valuable opportunity to witness first-hand the dedication, enthusiasm, and progress of the young women as they developed new skills.
Graduation Ceremony
The programme concluded with a graduation ceremony held on Saturday, 27th June 2026, jointly sponsored by NSBT and Flour Mill, at which 22 students graduated – 10 supported by NSBT and 12 supported by Flour Mill.
The ceremony brought together representatives from NSBT, Flour Mill, the Honourable Member of Parliament, the Councillor, members of the CDAP Committee, other community stakeholders, families, friends, and SLBC media. Speakers from the sponsoring companies, local leadership, and a gender equality advocate addressed the gathering, highlighting key issues affecting the community and the importance of empowering women through skills development.
A Path to Opportunity
Each graduate received a certificate of completion and a start-up kit to help launch their entrepreneurial journey. This practical support reinforces the programme’s goal of turning learning into lasting opportunities, fostering self-reliance and community growth.
NSBT and Nectar Group congratulate all the graduates, facilitators, partners, and community leaders who contributed to the success of this meaningful initiative. The dedication and effort shown by the participants are a strong example of how targeted skills programmes can open doors for women and support a more resilient future.
