Nectar Un groupe remporte son troisième prix de la FIJ

Nectar Group won their third IBJ award in four years in November 2013. Nectar Group Limited has won the Best Specialist Dry Port or Terminal award at the International Bulk Journal (IBJ) Awards Ceremony held in Paris.

The company, based in Romford, Essex, U.K.  came out on top to hold off a strong contingent of large corporations to win its third IBJ award in four years.

The award for Best Specialist Dry Port or Terminal recognizes Nectar’s work as the Operations and Maintenance contractor at the Beira Coal Terminal in Mozambique. The company now employs a team of approximately 200 dedicated staff; the majority of whom are Mozambican, in their coal handling operations in Beira.

In the wake of their success, the terminal is on course to reach its target throughput of 5 million tonnes per annum in 2014.

The judges this year were impressed with Nectar’s excellent operational performance in a challenging terminal start-up situation, the emphasis on setting and maintaining the highest standards for health and safety and the ongoing focus on continual performance improvement. The award highlighted Nectar Group’s increased efficiency in hitting delivery targets in its day to day terminal operations handling coal from train arrivals through to loading onto vessels.

Nectar Group Managing Director, Christopher Boughton, was delighted with the company’s third award from IBJ.

“We faced very stiff competition from a number of experienced and well-established operators from around the world, which makes our achievement in winning this award even more impressive.

“We won the IBJ award for Bulk Logistics Excellence in 2010, and the IBJ award for Best Ship Unloading System in 2012, so we have a track record of excellence in our operations.”

He continued: “We are very pleased to have been recognized for the work we are doing at the Beira Coal Terminal in Mozambique, but it is important to remember that this is a team effort on a wider scale. Nectar acknowledges and is grateful for the excellent co-operation and support from all of the stakeholders in the Beira Coal Terminal. Our emphasis has been to establish first-class standards in all areas of the terminal from the maintenance of all of the equipment to the daily coal handling operations, combining local knowledge and international expertise.

Nectar has been active in Mozambican ports since the 1980s, and it has always enjoyed very good co-operation from the Mozambique Port Authorities and port concessionaire companies throughout this time. Being invited to have an involvement in the development of the new coal terminal was the latest extension of Nectar’s activities in Mozambique, where it now also provides maintenance services for mobile and gantry cranes.

Nectar Group has been handling and bagging bulk materials for more than 40 years. During this time, it has had operations at 152 locations in 75 countries, and now employs a dedicated staff of 350 people.

Mr Boughton concludes: “This award recognizes the skills we have at Nectar Group, and what makes it even more rewarding is that it comes from our peers within the industry.”
