British High Commissioner Visits NSBT Port

NSBT was honoured to welcome the British High Commissioner and the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) for a courtesy visit to the port. This visit underscores the importance of partnerships and ongoing collaboration in trade growth, investment and infrastructure developments. As part of the visit, the group toured the newly upgraded facilities at NSBT and the new third berth.

Our esteemed guests included Ms Josephine Gauld LVO, British High Commissioner to the Republic of Sierra Leone (who took office in September 2024), Yankuba Bio Director of SLPHA and Captain Fabjanko Kokan, Country Manager of Freetown Terminal Limited and Regional Manager for AGL in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia.  

The group discussed recent developments as well as the key drivers of international and regional trade and economic growth in Sierra Leone; representing a shared vision for sustainable growth and opportunities for further collaboration and investment. 

Mrs. Siamba Kamara, NSBT General Manager highlighted the latest activities at NSBT: 

  • NSBT celebrated 10th Anniversary in October
  • New third berth now operational with a 190m long quayside (allowing vessels of up to 220 meters), 12.5m draft and an enhanced open space for future development of 12,000 square meters.
  • Increased vessel capability with significant boost to the volume of cargo handled with faster turnaround speeds.  
  • Improved operational innovations with incorporating new technologies, automation systems and real-time tracking mechanisms.
  • Further enhancement of environmental best practices including new greener technologies, installation of solar power systems in 2024, LED lighting, and upgraded waste management.
  • NSBT was recently shortlisted for the international IBJ awards – on the finalist list for ‘Best Dry Bulk Port’

NSBT proudly shared our commitment to improving the capacity and efficiency of our port with enhanced infrastructure and investment for sustainable economic growth, improved logistics and supply chain management.
