Cyclone Idai swept through Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe on the 14th March 2019. It left behind a trail of destruction affecting an estimated 2.6 million people.
Nectar Group has been working in Beira, Mozambique for over 30 years, a location that may now become the victim of one of the worst weather-related disasters on record in the southern hemisphere.
Key infrastructure along with houses, roads, schools have all been ripped apart. What was prime agricultural land is completely submerged. It is estimated over 400,000 people have lost their homes. This is disaster on an unprecedented scale.
Nectar Group is working closely with national partners and authorities to support the aftermath and has already donated US$100,000 in funding as an immediate response.
We are setting up a further fund to help with targeted local projects in Beira once the flood waters recede. Our aim is to raise an additional US$100,000. We are appealing to our clients, service providers and the shipping community to ask for your support, assist Nectar with this initiative. Please contact us for further details on how to make a donation by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling on +44 1708 386 555.
