Industry News | Port of Beira Receives Longest Container Ship Ever to Dock

Post Panamax Ship Docks at the Port of Beira in Mozambique

MSC Houston, the longest container ship ever to dock at the Port of Beira, berthed yesterday, June 12th. The vessel, flying the Portuguese flag, leaves the port today and sails to neighbouring South Africa. With a capacity of 4,500 TEUS and for its dimensions, the MSC Houston is the second Post Panamax ship to dock at the Port of Beira, after the Wide Juliet, 255 metres long, docked in June 2020.

Nectar Group and Nectar Mozambique are pleased to work together with Cornelder de Moçambique to deliver a full maintenance service to the Beira port including the multi-purpose container terminal and general cargo.

Nectar’s dedicated team of experienced technicians monitor and service the Port’s equipment, taking pre-emptive or remedial actions to ensure guaranteed levels of availability and the highest standard of efficiency. In addition to maintenance capabilities, our local teams provide consultancy and procurement of parts from global suppliers, ensuring minimum downtime. We help our customers improve operations and reduce carbon emissions.

Port of Beira Developments

In recent years, the Port of Beira has seen significant growth in containerised cargo and more, as a result of the aggressive commercial strategy that CdM has been developing in the region’s markets, as well as continued investment in improving accessibility to the port, acquisition of modern handling equipment, expansion of storage areas, the introduction of new technologies and systems to optimise operations, factors that contribute to improving port performance, giving greater confidence to customers and users.

The investments made in dredging to deepen the access channel, manoeuvring basin and berths have also been decisive in enabling ships of the Panamax and Post Panamax typology, with large cargo capacity, to call at Beira more regularly.
